Dot Dot Dash

Get ready for July 30, when we have Dot Dot Dash visiting!
Yes, that’s almost two months, but here’s why you want to mark your calendars now:
Bill Anderson (fiddle), John Hildreth (guitar), Joel Keebler (bass), Matt Livingston (mandolin) from Virginia & North Carolina will be joined by Kevin Anderson (drums), from Dayton Ohio.
Ken Gall will call to them.

want to play in open band?
Great! We always welcome musicians of pretty much any experience level to play with the open band (first Tuesday of odd numbered months). Fiddle, banjo, spoons, drums, Sousaphone!
This is music and dance by and for amateurs, for fun; we don’t expect professional skills (though pros are welcome too) and it’s not a contest! You’re just going to play a 64 beat tune over and over, at a consistent tempo appropriate for a moderately brisk walk, for about 10 minutes.
Shy? Don’t worry. We won’t put you right behind a microphone, and you can play as quietly as you want.
Please arrive around 7:15 on Open Band night (the next one is July 2nd) and we’ll get you set up on the stage, and go over how we handle tune selection and changes, how the caller will communicate with the band, and other mechanics.
Band members must still wear clean shoes or socks when walking across the church gym floor.
Questions? Email our schedulers (Dianna and Vickie) at indycontra.schedule@gmail.com.

Open calling with Entwyned. Everybody who wants to dance is welcome. Just bring a pair of clean shoes, and ideally a water bottle and $5. Be here before the 7:30 intro and we’ll spend 10 minutes talking you through it.
Thursday – yes, Thursday – at the State Fair

This year we are dancing on a Thursday at the Indiana State Fair. They’re all booked Tuesday, so we’ll dance our regular Tuesday, August 13, dance at Zion, and then dance again on Thursday, August 15, at the fair. We’re on the Dance for Health Stage (or whatever they’re calling it this year) 7 – 9 p.m.
Locust Honey – old time from NC

May 28th we feature Locust Honey, a visiting band from North Carolina. David Ernst will call. You will enjoy it!
Feel free to bring non-dancing friends who enjoy country, old time, and other traditional music. Just don’t forget: no street shoes on the gym floor.
5/21

We feature Cincinnati talent tonight: The Ripples & caller Frank Buschelmann.
Guest caller Terry Stefan
On May 14th, join Troika & your dance friends in welcoming Terry Stefan, our caller, who’s visiting from Tennessee… or was that North Carolina? Either way, she’s a guest!
Trevor & open band
The Canadians came last week! We should be on Detours, broadcast by “Canal Evasion” in, well, a while.
This week’s excitement comes from the open band and calling by Trevor DeWitt. Dancers: if you have musician friends, invite them to come sit it.
Waltz & cameras!
We have two special things on April 30th: Vickie Gruner will lead a beginning waltz workshop starting at 7:15. And a Canadian TV crew is supposedly coming to film us for a series about traveling in the U.S. Come see if that’s true or we’ve been taken in by an email scam!
