Indy’s first Open Calling!

Tuesday, March 29th Indianapolis has our first night of Open Calling, with a mix of new folks giving it a try. We’d love to have lots of our longtime dancers come and support their friends who are taking on the challenge of a new role, up on stage with the mic instead of out on the floor. Entwyned will play.

Ceili, contra, contra, Ceili

Coffee Zombies
Entwyned's violin and mandola

Tuesday, March 29th, we have music by Entwyned.

“Our” Coffee Zombies play Wednesday (March 30) at the Bloomington contra dance, which starts at at 8:15 pm.

Indianapolis Ceili Band has 2 events this week; on Saturday (3/27), at 2 p.m. concert at the Indianapolis Central Library, and Thursday, (3/31) a fundraiser, to cover costs for their trip to Chicago to compete against other ceili bands in the Midwest Fleadh Cheoil (Midwest Music Festival). Ticket info, etc. on their site.

Change of Plans: Atlantic Crossing 3/22!

Atlantic Crossing

Vermont based Atlantic Crossing is going to play for our contra on Tuesday 3/22, bringing us some traditional, “New England roots” music to dance to.  They have 15+ years experience playing for dances, concerts, and contra dance weekends & special events, & will have copies of at least some of their 5 CDs available for purchase at very reasonable prices. Audio clips are available on their site.

We’re re-scheduling Open Calling to March 29, and may move around other details to accommodate this unexpected bonus. But rest assured, we’re dancing Tuesday nights!

Mardi Gras contra!

Join us Tuesday, March 8th, Mardi Gras, for a special “Fat Tuesday” party dance, called by Jonathan Sivier, music by Banjar! (Claire Johnson and Ben Liddy). Beads, green & purple, masks, sparkly, flashy clothes, & anything too bizarre for Halloween are all called for tonight!

Here’s a video of Banjar! in a tamer environment:

Open Band & caller Ken Gall

Early March is one of those times of year when we don’t know what the weather will be like! Snow? Rain? A lovely, sunny & relatively warm day?

Our first dance of March (3/1/11) is also one of those times we don’t know what we’ll get. We do know Ken Gall is calling, but with Open Band, well, we could have 5 banjos or none, a marching band’s worth of percussion or none, maybe a harp!

Come find out!
