Special events in Urbana, Fort Wayne & Cincinnati

Planning your spring dance calendar?

Urbana’s Dan Jam!!! (yes, 3 !) offers an absolutely free Friday night contra, Saturday night waltz & Cajun dance, pizza party & other activities on March 2nd & 3rd.

Fort Wayne has a special daylong event on Saturday, March 16th, with music and dance from 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Appleseed Allemande is just two very easy hours drive from Zion.

Also coming up, Pigtown Fling in Cincinnati, March 22 – 24th.

It’s cold and we’re not dancing, but just as gardeners are currently picking out seeds for spring planting, we can make plans for spring dancing!

2013 fun is coming

Even though we’re not dancing for a few weeks, we have lots to look forward to, including February 12, Mardi Gras, and April 9, lots of librarians arriving for ACRL conference. We hope for guests!

On January 15th dancers are meeting for dinner, flier posting in various downtown sites, and karaoke at Si Green’s Pub. Drop us a note if you’re interested.

2013

Important upcoming 2013 info:

  • We can’t dance January 1, 8, 15, or 22.
  • We will dance January 29.
  • Board elections will be in February. At least one current board member is ready to rotate off, so please contact indycontra@gmail.com if you might be able to serve.

12/25 and 1/1/2013

Don’t forget and accidentally come dancing on Christmas or New Year’s. You’ll certainly be welcome at church or other downtown activities, but there won’t be any contra.  If you need to dance (and who doesn’t?) our friends in Bloomington welcome you on Wednesdays and December 29th, our friends in Cincinnati welcome you New Year’s Eve, and Urbana welcomes you the first weekend of 2013. Info is on our “Nearby dances” page. None of these events require pre-registration.

12/18

We’ll contra dance Tuesday, 12/18 to music by Pinenuts (Dianna Davis, Mario Joven, Dmitri Alano, and Steve Johnson) with David Ernst calling. Wear something festive, bring a snack, bring friends and relatives!

This is our last dance of 2012. No contra for us on Christmas Day or New Year’s.

This might be a good time for a drive (or not, weather depending): our friends in Bloomington dance every Wednesday no matter what, and every 5th Saturday, including December 29th! There will be a New Year’s Eve dance in  Cincinnati (potluck at 6, dancing 8 – 1 a.m.) and Jan Jam in Urbana, IL, on Friday & Saturday January 4th & 5th.

Join us again January 8, 2013 after which we take another 2 week break. The church is doing maintenance and we will skip the 15th and 22nd, then start again January 29, 2013.

12/11

61st Pl. Project with Jonathan Sivier calling. For extra fun, come to the board meeting before the dance, or bring a friend.

11/27

A new band, Troika, plays Celtic, Folk, Gypsy and “Slavicana” and Ryan Smith calls. Last week we had a dozen new dancers, and everybody said they had fun and are coming back. Do join us for for fun!
