Early notice about December & January

Early notice: We are not planning on dancing this year on Christmas or New Year’s Day.  And we are looking for an alternative location for the first few weeks of January 2013, as the church will do maintenance that limits building access.

If local dancers have suggestions of a site, ideally with a sprung wood floor, nice enough restrooms, lighting, and temperature control; easy to find, good parking, near a bus stop, not too expensive. . . please let a board member know. We’re specifically looking for January, but welcome ideas of places we might dance in summer, for occasional weekend events, or for special outreach events.

Gypsy Moon Ball feedback

A few dance gypsies

The Indy Contra Board was happy to see many of you at Gypsy Moon Ball 2012, and would appreciate your feedback, whether you came or not. (We understand! Nobody can attend all the contra dances they would like to.)

If you DID attend GMB 2012, the board would appreciate your feedback using this anonymous form: http://bit.ly/Xep32z

If you did NOT attend GMB 2012, the board would appreciate your feedback using this anonymous form: http://bit.ly/RBysOc

If you may have Lost anything, please email indycontra@gmail.com. (If you left a brown crock pot several years ago, we still have it, but we don’t want to build up a big stash.)

“E pluribus unum,” our nation’s de facto motto and a great motto for open band night!

We have an election night contra with music by Open Band with John Teskey calling. Bring your instruments or your dance shoes.  Wear your red, white, & blue outfits! And show goodwill for contra dancers of all political perspectives. Put aside politics at this most political time, turn off twitter, texts, and TV. Spend two hours with other people with whom you share a love of music and dance.

10/30

October 30th is our post Gypsy Moon Ball cool-down contra with Ken Gall Calling to Five-OH!

But first we have Gypsy Moon Ball, contra dancing all weekend (except for a few hours dedicated to sleep, food, and showers), October 26, 27, and 28th. Rebecca Lay and Anadama fly in from New England on Friday afternoon, and we start dancing to them at 8 p.m.  If you have a ticket to the sold out Sunday dance at Lovett Hall (in Dearborn, MI), we welcome you Friday and/or Saturday. If you’ll be contra dancing to Bare Necessities in Columbus OH on Friday (and not an English or Scottish dancer), we welcome you Saturday & Sunday.  If you can, we hope you’ll be with us from 8 p.m. Friday to 3:30 p.m. Sunday! (Eastern time)

10/23

Later this week (October 26 – 28) we have Gypsy Moon Ball. Tuesday evening we have Emily Ann Thompson with Bob Duffy Calling. We always welcome new dancers, we never require lessons or pre-registration, and we hope to see you there!

10/16

Vickie, Chuck, & Sean play while Barry Dupen calls. Bring your check to register for Gypsy Moon Ball, and bring a friend. Introducing them to contra is one of the nicest gifts you can give anybody.
