Root Beer Floats
Ken & Carole Gall invite all dancers to their place after the dance on August 23rd. Ken & Carole will provide Root Beer float ingredients. People are welcome to bring snacks or drinks, especially non-alcoholic ones! We are trying to keep it user friendly for the college age dancers, some of whom may be under 21. This is in part a goodbye for a dancer who will be leaving in September for a year of overseas humanitarian work, and for anybody else who wants to celebrate anything. We’ll have flyers with the map and address at Tuesday’s dance.
61st Pl. Project & Ryan Smith
August 23rd, stretch those dancing muscles, get ready for Sugar Hill (where people dance to 4 a.m.) contra dance in Indianapolis, music 61st Pl. Project, with Ryan Smith calling.
Contra at the Indiana State Fair!

On August 16, 2011, everyone’s invited to join us on the Clarian Dance for Health Stage at the Indiana State Fair. Music by Emily Ann Thompson with Frank Buschelmann calling. We have some passes for admission, available to Indy Contra and Bloomington contra group members and volunteers who are SURE they’ll come. If we run out of tickets, or you’re not really sure you’re coming, you can still get in for just $2 using this voucher.
Join us early for rides, dinner, and extra perspiration. (8 – 10 p.m. as usual.)
Also, it’s $2 Taste of the Fair Day, so corn dogs, fries, and other foods will be on sale. Meet at 6 at the stage, which is in the southeast corner, near Gate 6 & the east end of Main Street on this map.
time to register for Sugar Hill

If you’re attending Sugar Hill (and who isn’t?), Bloomington’s dance weekend on August 26 – 28, mail in your registration now to save $10. Admission of $35 gets dancing, meals, and tent camping (with showers, toilets, etc.). Add about $55 for 2 nights in an air conditioned bunkroom.
Contra to a Maine/Cincinnati caller!

On August 9th we have a guest, Maine native, now living and dancing in Cincinnati, Dugan Murphy, making his debut on our calling stage. Music by Iron Curtain Meltdown.
As always, everybody’s invited to the board meeting, 6:15 in the Cafe. We generally meet 2nd Tuesdays (& it should be listed in our calendar).
August 2

Join us in the heat of summer for contra dancing to music by Hoosier Hill Boys, with Ken Gall leading open calling. Please contact Ken in advance if you want to call.
Don’t forget the 5th Saturday dance, below:
Barry Dupen and Entwyned – and a Saturday Dance in Bloomington

Join us on July 26th for calling by our Fort Wayne friend, Barry Dupen, and music by our Bloomington friends, Entwyned. (Admission $1 extra to cover travel costs.)
We have a special session for newer dancers, starting at 7:00, led by Juliet Port, covering all the basics at a little less quick pace than normal (come 7:40 any week). Everyone’s welcome.
On Saturday, July 30th, Bloomington has a 5th Saturday contra, 8 – 11 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club, 311 S. Lincoln. Music by Hogwire (Brad Leftwich, fiddle; Linda Higginbotham, banjo; Joel Lensch, guitar; and Marielle Abell, bass) with calling by Jim Vogt from Cincy. The snack table always features homemade goodies! Chances are several Indy dancers will drive, so ask around about ride sharing.
July 19th
Celtic Myst is playing and Bob Duffy’s calling. It’s been very hot outside, so you might want to bring a water bottle (or iced tea, juice, etc.). At least two men at a recent dance wished they had thought to bring a clean shirt or two; if this was you, here’s your reminder.
We know there’s a board meeting, 6:15, all welcome, with work on Gypsy Moon Ball planning, and our Spirit & Place dance event, which is scheduled for November 9th. Save the Date!
Water!
Please, if you can, bring a bottle of water (or other nonalcoholic beverage) to the dance. We’d like to reduce the number of plastic cups we throw away each week, and the 5 gallon jug we have to lug up the stairs is heavy!
