Our callers for 2009 are Gaye Fifer and Meg Dedolph! Gaye, an accomplished contra caller & active dancer, understands the subtleties of making contra dances particularly satisfying for dancers. Her instructions are clear & concise as she is a teacher by profession. An easy smile & delightful sense of humor are part of Gaye's relaxed, pleasant style. Meg plans to call dances that are intuitive and easy to understand so people can get into that happy dance groove faster. Musicians for 2009 are Hu$hmoney and Third Fiddle, with guests the Cosmic Otters! Hu$hmoney, formerly known as Strings & Things, (David Rice: Harmonica, Guitar, Fiddle -- Tina Bergmann: Hammered Dulcimer, Guitar -- Heather Malyuk: Guitar, Fiddle -- Bryan Thomas: Bass, Chank-O-Matic 6000). Hu$hmoney’s collective musical experience includes American old time, Celtic, Scottish, Puerto Rican, African, Cuban, classical & blues traditions. Third Fiddle, Ben Smith, Urbana's fiddling wizard, in duet with Miriam Larson, spinning out luscious melody on flute, grounded with foot-stomping piano backup by Eric Schedler of Bloomington, IN. Cosmic Otters Jonathan Whitall, Meg Dedolph of Chicago, and Edward Wallace have a reputation for dance music that's lush, driving, responsive to the dancers, and grounded in a solid choice of tunes. |
